The Zenith model 6D116 is a six tube, 2-band superheterodyne radio receiver, copper plated chassis in a compact wood case.  It qualifies as an All American Five AA5 radio. The inherent sensitivity, selectivity and tone quality of the superheterodyne is a feature of this receiver.  The circuit as follows: local oscillator and first detector, intermediate frequency stage, second detector and 1st audio and a power amplifier stage.  Including the power supply rectifier, six tube chassis.

The wave magnet was a big thing for Zenith in 1942 and it does do the job, even on short wave. I had no problem receiving the 5MHz., 10MHz. and 15MHz. WWV transmissions using only the wave magnet. This model uses 7 tubes; the output stage is a triode directly coupled to the grid of higher plate current triode, a 8P5 cathode follower drives a 6AC5 triode output. These radios were part of the tube count wars so this scheme added a tube and $10 to the list price over the 6S632 which sold for $44.95.

The first post WWII Trans-Oceanic was touted as the “Super Power Trans oceanic Portable Radio”. It was made from 1946 to 1949 this unit made in 1948. The cabinet has been refinished, see below for the details. The radio is a six band portable with good sensitivity and selectivity. It uses the 1LC6 pentagrid converter which has identical electrical specifications to its clone the expensive 1L6 which followed it. Zenith used the push-pull output because the 1V heaters of the output tubes did not produce enough loudness.
